Plants That Attract Birds
Birds, especially songbirds, are usually welcome in our gardens. They provide background music, adding to the pleasure of a garden stroll. Who can resist the mockingbird's sunset serenade from the cherry tree or the sweet whistles of the cardinal announcing dawn from the dogwood? We've indicated which plants are best at providing the berries and seeds that attract mockingbirds, cardinals, orioles and other birds to the home landscape.
Around this time of year farmers here in Kentucky remove the flower buds from the waist-high tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) plants. Sometimes they miss a few, like this on, and the showy, fragrant flowers make an appearance. Click to download a large of version (800x600) of this beautiful burley blossom from my home state of Kentucky (which is also preparing to re-enter the commercial hemp, Cannabis sativa market).
In addition to our Plant Profiles, there are hundreds more pages that you can visit on Floridata's Articles and Resources page where you find links to our Butterfly Gallery that profiles 49 species, a Wildflower Meadow Gardening "how to" and many other gardening and natural science features.
